the photo album

By L. Stewart Marsden

browsing images from the past
browned and curled edges
scalloped borders
black and white
sights caught with boxed Brownies
and film fed without instant gratification
a week or more to judge the actions
of loved ones reacting to “Smile!”
or “Say cheese!”
pasted on black pages
to last the ages
binding magic-marker marked
with year and place and content
content to sit on shelves
for days and weeks and years and more
until stored in cardboard
and toted to the attic
where heat and moisture
mildews memories
until some second-generation progeny
kneels down and cracks the sepia-toned volume
to leaf and turn
history and mystery of the past.

The sepia memories….great piece Skip, I love scrap books with the old white corners that you, glued in the books….they still managed to fall off and get lost and after awhile the pics were falling all mishmmash throughout the pages. Bravo☺️

I love it how you can tell from a poem that this poet drinks scotch whiskey. bravo.
