The Grandstand

by L. Stewart Marsden

Pushed to the edge of the sand and the sea and the skies,
I cannot fathom the grains nor the drops nor the planets, the suns or moons
that lie immeasurably through time immeasurable;
yet that which overwhelms me
undergirds me;
gives me, in such a vast measure of unknowables,
a treasure to hope for and rely upon
beyond my mere self;
and I am drawn back to the edge of the sand and the sea and the skies
where I am but a spec in this grand stand.
